Well that's just about it for Christmas now, I shall see if I over indulge this evening weather I'll be in tomorrow morning just in case anyone has forgotten anything and just tidy up the place.

May I once again wish you all a very merry Christmas and the best of the season.

Friday, 21 December 2007

Well Christmas is nearly here and I have less than 20 Christmas trees left. Each year it looks too many and each year they go and every pomander has gone except one! I have a few wreaths left and then January will be a slow month with lots of weekends off. Also it's my birthday in January so I will go plant searching and just enjoy some a warm climate abroad and their plants.

If you still need a tree I have 17 left approximately so get yourself a bargain now and get yourself on down.

Once again seasons greetings and merry Christmas to customers new and old.

Here's another map to show where we are in Cottingham. You'll see signs up on the Northgate Junction when we are open that say Discount Plants Garden Centre.
Only one more weekend before Christmas. We still have trees in stock so hurry if you haven't got your real tree up yet. Nice day in Cottingham this morning though cold but no frost for a change.

Thursday, 13 December 2007

13th of December and another sunny frosty cold day. I hope it's like this for Christmas day this year with maybe some snow falling. Only 12 more nights to Christmas morning.

Wednesday, 12 December 2007

Cold frosty day in Cottingahm and the ice still has cleared. Lovely sparkle to everything in the garden centre especially the trees and shrubs.

Fir a flyin

Quite a nice bright day but still very cold. People are rushing in for the Christmas trees in Cottingham now. Apparently on the news they said they were scarce this year and not much Holly with berries on.

Monday, 10 December 2007

Sunny and wet day but still very beautiful in Cottingham and each passing day feels more Christmasie than the last.

Sunday, 9 December 2007

The day has stayed fairly dry and people are venturing out with their cars to collect Christmas trees in their droves today.

Saturday, 8 December 2007

Wet dark miserable day but didn't stop people coming out today to get in the Christmas tress and start decorating.

A Christmas tree may take up to a gallon of water the first 24 hours and several pints each day thereafter. Keeping the tree in water is the most important part of Christmas tree care.

Shrub Planting

I have a few Skimmia japonica 'Rubella' still in stock for £2.99. A beautiful plant to put in this time of year and is very hardy and loves partial shade or shade. 'Rubella' is the male variety that has gorgeous red margined, dark lush green leaves. The flower buds are a prominent feature of the plant, as are the scented flowers which scent the garden in spring. It is perfect for growing in the garden or containers and provides excellent all year round colour.

Traditionally Christmas trees were set up on Christmas eve, and were taken down after Twelfth Night which is January the 6th. The Christmas tree was introduced to Britain by the German wife of King George III.

Walked through Cottingham village this morning with the many Christmas wreaths and pomanders hanging from shops and homes and there is something of the beautiful Dickensian spirit in our village so lost in other areas. Christmas trees are appearing at every window and the sense of Christmas approaching now seems to be gearing up.
Dark wet miserable day this morning so glad the Christmas decorations are up and bringing some joy to this time of the year. Have you got your Christmas tree up yet? Hard to believe less than 3 weeks to Christmas day.

Heap on the wood!-the wind is chill; But let it whistle as it will, We'll keep our Christmas merry still.

19 more days to Christmas

19 more days to Christmas
We've had our link added to the Cottingham UK site at: http://www.cottinghamuk.co.uk/

Thank you for this link and we are also No.1 in Google.com for the search words "discount plants" which isn't bad for web page and blog not even a week old!!
Well the wind has now picked up and the rain is here. Still very mild for the beginning of December so at least my heating costs might be cheap this winter!
Dark but warm day here in Cottingham so far. Supposedly to be windy later but no real sign of it yet. Grey clouds are everywhere at the moment though but when you are surrounded by hundreds of Christmas tress one can stay quite jolly or should I be happier when I've sold them all?!!

Just to give people a hint to where Park Lane is in Cottingham, plenty of Christmas trees looking for good homes.

Thank you

Thank you to Johnny for helping me with this blog and the web page I'll hopefully be able to post some useful! information myself from now on rather than him posting for me, LOL.
I've just been watching some children this afternoon as the sun was disappearing at around 3.30pm collecting Holly berries from inside the garden centre perimeter. Only one Christmas tree sold today so plenty left at very cheap prices for anyone that is down Park Lane in Cottingham, though you'll have to buy the holly as the children have taken all the berries from outside, LOL.
No. 1 in Google today for the search words 'Discount Plants Cottingham' using Firefox browser and No.2 using I.E., but even better is we are No.2 just for the search term 'discount plants'!!
Very dark cold day here in Cottingham so far this morning but thankfully no frost.

Christmas trees

“Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.” - Larry Wilder

Every possible space has Christmas trees now, I just can't get out of the garden centre to serve anyone now as I seem to of blocked all the exits!!

Google position

The search words "plants cottingham" gets us a place of 2 and 6 in Google.com which is fantastic.

I've just about finished making the last of the pomanders and the Christmas trees are looking lovely in the sun today. Yesterday was an awful day weather wise but today everything just looks a lot more festive.

Thank to everyone that visited Discount Plants this year and I hope you all have a great Christmas and a very merry New Year in 2008.
